Welcome to the July 2024 edition of the TELT monthly newsletter! In this issue, we’ll share important updates about the recent QMplus upgrade, provide resources to help you prepare for the upcoming academic year, and offer useful information such as job vacancies, FAQs, and details on upcoming workshops.
As we prepare for our TELT Welcome Week Student Inductions in September, we’re excited to announce that we’ve been expanding our team with new recruits to help us welcome incoming students. We still have one position available, so if you know any students who might be interested, please feel free to share the job description with them.
Upgrading QMplus has introduced new improvements and features to the quiz activity. To find out more, read our article on New Features of QMplus Quizzes.
We are aware of only one functionality that has become unavailable since the QMplus upgrade. Clicking on the column headers in the Grader Report will no longer take you to the graded activity. To find out more, read our article on Changes to the Column Header Links in the QMplus Grader Report.
As part of the QMplus upgrade, we have enabled the new similarity report for Turnitin. Users will now see the re-designed similarity report with an intuitive interface and match categorization panel, making it easier to interpret and use as a formative assessment tool to strengthen academic writing skills. To find out more, read our article on Turnitin’s Enhanced Similarity Report.
As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, we want to remind you of the importance of informing your students if you plan to rollover their 2023/24 QMplus courses. To find out more, read our article on Informing Students about QMplus Course Rollovers.
As we prepare for Welcome Week, our QMplus-related videos for students have been updated. These resources are available on our QMplus Media channel, organised into a Welcome Week playlist for you to easily share with your students. To find out more, go to TELT Welcome Week Videos for 2024.

Researcher Development Advisor, Melanie Crisfield, sent us this lovely praise for Learning Technologist Catherine Mclean:
“I’ve been working with Catherine for most of this academic year and wanted to flag up to you how amazingly helpful she’s been. Catherine responded to my initial request for a meeting to go through how to use QMPlus and has been supporting me since. She is absolutely brilliant – not only does she really understand the system, she is patient, informative, and kind. She never treats a question like a ‘stupid’ question. I really appreciate all the help she’s given me.”
We would also like to give a shout out to Annette Nembhard who delivered the excellent ‘Getting Started with QMplus’ training session and received very positive feedback:
