We are thrilled to announce a series of engaging webinars delivered by Brickfields Education Labs, the experts behind our Brickfields Accessibility Toolkit.
It is open to all staff members across various roles at Queen Mary University of London. These sessions are designed to help you understand and implement best practices in creating inclusive digital content, aligning with our goal of being the most inclusive university.
Digital accessibility benefits everyone and is a crucial aspect of our commitment to inclusivity. By attending these webinars, you will gain valuable insights and practical skills to ensure that your digital content is accessible to all students, regardless of their abilities.
In this special session, we will show you how to fix Word documents and PDFs.
Even better, would you like us to use one of your own documents to show you how to remediate it? Email your document to support@brickfield.ie with "document remediation proposal" in the subject, and we'll show you a selection of the most common accessibility problems in documents and how to fix them.

Disability is a conflict between someone’s functional capability and the world we have constructed - be it the physical or digital world.
Looking through the lens of the social view of disability, it is therefore the product (course and content) that creates the barriers, not the person accessing the content. (A web for everyone by Sarah Horton and Whitney Quesenbery).
So to create truly inclusive courses, we need to avoid creating the barriers, and remove the ones that are there and adopt the practice of accessibility - putting people and their needs first. However, without understanding what the barriers can be this is a tall ask. This session will look at some of the common barriers that get created in online content and how to avoid building them

In this presentation, we will discuss how to support your students and teachers by supplying them with more accessible content in alternate formats.
We will explore the different types of alternative formats available, their benefits, and their sustainability and maintenance. Providing students with alternative formats allows them to avoid having to declare their particular situation. All students can customize and personalize their learning experience by choosing the format that suits them best
