Night of Science and Engineering: Exploring the Metaverse

On February 20th, Megan from TELT took part in the Night of Science and Engineering 2025, showcasing the Collaborative Learning in the Metaverse project alongside Dr Marie-Luce Bourguet and Elise Omfalos from Queen Mary Academy.
The event attracted considerable interest in our metaverse initiative, showcasing its potential as an engaging alternative to traditional online meetings. Attendees had the opportunity to explore student-created virtual spaces, either on a laptop or using a Meta Quest VR headset. Many appreciated the metaverse’s dynamic, interactive, and playful nature, which stood in stark contrast to the often dull and uninspiring experience of conventional online meetings.
Elise and Marie-Luce are currently gathering feedback from students involved in the project. The data collected includes video recordings of meetings, transcripts, surveys, and interview responses. Initial feedback is positive—for instance, interviewees noted that they now meet more frequently for group work than before and feel significantly more productive. A comprehensive report on the project’s findings will be released soon.
If you would like to learn more about this project, or are interested in using the metaverse in your own teaching, please reach out to Megan in TELT.
