Two people engaged in conversation at a TELT event.
In November 2024, we organised Let’s Talk About TEL at Mile End campus, connecting with students (78%) and academics (22%) to gather insights on their experiences with educational technologies and tools, and to uncover opportunities for improvement.
Key Insights
Student Experience
QMplus was praised for its ease of use, with appreciated features like calendar tools and online assessment submission processes. Students showed interest in immersive tools like AR but felt they were more relevant for specific disciplines. AI tools are cautiously used for support but not as substitutes for learning. Challenges included issues with lecture recordings, technical problems, and inconsistent feedback practices.
Academic Perspectives
Academics valued Q-Review but noted limitations in capturing whiteboard content. They identified technical challenges, student engagement issues, and time constraints as barriers to adopting innovative tools. Clearer and more efficient assessment feedback practices particularly around double-blind marking were also a priority.
Next steps
The feedback and insights that resulted from the conversations will be shared within TELT and wider ITS teams to inform our continual efforts to improve the digital learning experience for both staff and students.
Let's Talk About TEL goes to Whitechapel next!
On 11 February, between 12.00 - 16.00 we will be at the Garrod Building speaking with staff and students in the Medicine and Dentistry Faculty. Come and say Hello!
