Becoming a Student Ambassador at TELT has not only been enriching but transformative, offering me invaluable opportunities to develop skills vital for my future career. The most significant growth I've experienced is in my public speaking and logical presentation abilities. The content we delivered wasn't technologically complex, but capturing the students' attention and logically presenting each segment posed a real challenge. Through continuous learning and practice with the team, I gradually discovered effective ways to engage my audience.
From the nervousness of my first session, where I clutched my notes with trembling hands, to the confidence of standing center stage using gestures to enhance my delivery by the second session, my transformation was profound. This journey from anxious reading to fluent presenting in a classroom setting sharpened my logical thinking and made my message delivery more impactful. This role greatly enhanced my English speaking skills, as engaging with a diverse student body pushed me to achieve a level of fluency beyond my initial expectations. This skill is particularly important to me as a lawyer, where public speaking is a routine necessity. Being able to articulate complex ideas confidently in a non-native language has added a valuable dimension to my professional capabilities.
Another great aspect of being a Student Ambassador was learning to adapt and solve problems quickly. Sometimes, I needed to change how I presented information to make sure students paid attention and enjoyed the session. Working with other ambassadors to solve sudden problems also helped me think faster and find solutions quickly. For example, when students seemed bored or confused, I learned to adjust our activities right away to make them more interesting and clear. These experiences taught me how to think on my feet, a skill that is very important for lawyers. I also got better at understanding people from different cultures, which is very important in law today. These skills have made me more flexible and strong, and I will use them in my future career as a lawyer.
Additionally, the role's dynamic environment was unlike any I had encountered in previous job settings. The atmosphere was supportive and jovial, where laughter and jokes were part of our daily interactions, yet everyone remained highly professional. This balance made our tasks feel less like work and more like a part of our learning journey.
As I reflect on my time as a Student Ambassador, I realise the role has shaped me in ways I had not anticipated. It taught me the importance of adaptability, thorough preparation, and the power of a supportive team. While I look forward to new challenges and opportunities, the memories and skills I have gathered from this role will undoubtedly influence my path forward. I hope to carry the essence of what I learned into my future endeavors and possibly inspire the next set of ambassadors to embrace this wonderful opportunity.
