Overview

An IT Management for Business programme, which combines the expertise of computer science and business academics, with the needs of industry.

What you'll study

You’ll develop theoretical understanding and gain hands-on experience in programming, software, web technologies and information systems. Alongside this, you’ll be taught the vital skills for success in business, such as management, marketing and accounting.

Industry involvement is fundamental to this programme. As a Tech Industry Gold learner, you'll become part of a community with regular access to employers, through industry-supported events, talks, competitions, awards and more.

This programme holds the Tech Industry Gold accreditation, the only industry accreditation recognising high-quality pathways into digital and tech careers.

You can complete your Computer Science with Management (ITMB) degree in three or four years. Industrial Experience and Year Abroad options will take place in the third year of study.

Teaching

Teaching and learning

You’ll spend 15 to 20 hours per week in lectures, laboratory sessions and tutorials. You will also be expected to complete additional hours of independent study. You’ll meet with your personal advisor regularly to ensure that you are settling in and progressing well.

Assessment

Taught modules are usually assessed through a combination of exams and coursework. Lab-based modules are often assessed through practical coursework, while more theoretical modules may be assessed through in-class tests, exercise sheets or written assignments.

Group and individual project work forms a significant component of assessment. Project modules are assessed on the basis of a written report, oral presentation and demonstration of the concrete outcomes of the module, e.g. developed software.

Resources and facilities

As a student, your home will be the Mile End campus.​ You'll spend lots of time in our Informatics Teaching Lab (ITL), which is only used by Electronic Engineering and Computer Science students. This lab is made up of 300 fully networked multimedia workstations, which run both the Linux and Windows operating systems. The ITL is due to undergo a £5.8 million refurbishment, funded by the Office for Students.

The labs are open seven days a week, generally between 8am and midnight. Students can also gain remote access to the School’s computing facilities 24-hours a day.

We have a number of students employed as 'module demonstrators', who are available in labs to help first and second-year students to navigate software and programming tools.

IBInternational Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 36 points overall, including 6,6,6 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include either Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics at Higher Level. We will consider either Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation or Mathematics: Analysis and approaches at Higher Level.
BTECSee our detailed subject and grade requirements
Access HEWe consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma in Computing. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, of which 33 credits must be at Distinction and 12 credits at Merit or higher. Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Due to the high volume of applications, we do not make offers of study purely on the basis of meeting grade requirements. GCSE Mathematics at grade B/5 is required in addition to the Access qualification.
GCSEMinimum five GCSE passes including English at grade C or 4 and Maths at grade B or 5.
