The most support and guidance I have had so far in terms of my future has been from the Queen Mary careers and enterprise team. The team provides a range of services and advice in order to help you expand your knowledge on what to expect in the “real world” of your work life.
It is the best place to get feedback and advice. The staff are very well informed on employment trends and can pass on their knowledge to you. They provide guidance on how to get to where you want to be and help you to become equipped on the skills and experience required to get there.
This is my go-to place to get feedback and a second opinion on my applications and cover letters. Whilst I was searching for placements and internships, I would book an appointment with the team to go through my CV and applications. I received valuable advice on what companies are looking for and how to make my application stand out.
I also booked an appointment for a mock interview. The careers service provides amazing interview techniques making you feel ready and prepared for any interviews you have coming up.
If you feel you have no work experience or want more experience in your related career field then the careers service is the best place to start. The careers professionals can help you find suitable experience that meets your needs and fits in to your timetable.
Additionally, if you are keen on starting your own business this is the first place you should go to. If you have a business idea you can apply for the Queen Mary enterprise fund to try put your idea to life. The more you grow and build it the more funding you can apply for. All in all, I recommend everyone to take advantage of this service. It is available throughout your time at University and even 2 years after you graduate to support you in finding work or applying to further study. It will help you feel more confident making decisions about your career and make you feel better prepared to achieve your career goal. I truly believe by receiving help and guidance from the amazing careers and enterprise team I was able to secure an internship and placement and hope to use this service to help me land my dream job after I graduate.
