Professor Rajesh Thakker awarded OBE in King’s Birthday Honours

Queen Mary University of London is delighted to congratulate Professor Rajesh Thakker, who has been recognised with an OBE for services to medical science and to people with hereditary and rare disorders in the 2024 King’s Honours list.

Professor Rajesh Thakker

Professor Thakker joined Queen Mary in 2023 as Professor of Medicine. He is also a Fellow of Somerville College and Harris Manchester College, Oxford. His main research interests include the molecular basis of disorders of calcium homeostasis and he has authored over 500 publications, which have included peer-reviewed papers in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Lancet Journals.

On receiving his OBE, Professor Thakkar said:

“I am delighted to receive this honour on behalf of the endocrine community and the William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London. I would like to thank my wonderful team of clinical and scientific researchers and global collaborators, whose dedicated work has elucidated molecular mechanisms for endocrine and metabolic diseases, that has also facilitated translation of scientific advances into benefits for patients.

"Patients are central to all our work and their courage and determination to triumph over many adversities has been a constant inspiration. I am indebted to all of them and the medical research funding organisations, especially the Medical Research Council and Wellcome Trust, for their support.”
