Research Assistant

Profile

I’m thrilled to join the Unit for Psychological Medicine in the Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health. I am a Research Assistant working with Dr Megan Armstrong on a project exploring the management of multiple long-term conditions in people experiencing socioeconomic deprivation (see here).

I recently completed my MSc Health Psychology at the University of Derby and previous to that I obtained a BA in Psychology from the University of Sheffield. Alongside my MSc I also worked as a research assistant on various projects in the College of Health and Social Care (mainly in Diagnostic Radiography education) applying my research skills. After my MSc I worked as a Research Assistant on a short-term Health Psychology study on workplace presenteeism at the University of Sheffield.

Before starting my MSc I worked as a youth worker and a community development worker. I am also a Trustee and volunteer for a small charity on the estate where I live which is working towards building a community centre. Through this I run and support several community activities in my local area which bring people together and seeks to empower local residents to improve the quality of their lives. We have been successful in securing a half a million pound grant from the National Lottery for our new building so we’re hopeful that by next spring we will have our new centre complete!

I live in Derbyshire with my husband Tom, our two small children and our very large dog! I enjoy walking, running, swimming, cooking and reading (when I get the time to do any of those!)

Research

Research Interests:

One of my main academic and personal interests is reducing health inequalities, and I have been able to develop my knowledge of this through my academic reading, attending conferences (in person and virtually), through my MSc course modules and assignments and through living and volunteering on my estate.
