Professor Noam Shemtov has been chosen by the European Patent Office (EPO) to feature on their prestigious list of “50 Leading Tech Voices”; a list of 50 celebrated international experts in the field of sustainable innovation throughout the years.
It was put together by the EPO as part of their 50th anniversary celebration, and comprises a diverse selection of inventors, scientists, engineers, and IP experts in the following key fields:
As one of a small number of academics and the sole legal academic on the list, it is a great accomplishment for Professor Shemtov to have been selected for his contribution to the field of Digital Technologies.
Professor Shemtov is recognised as an authority on Intellectual Property and software-related products, processes and services. In 2017, he published a book with OUP analysing the legal principles and a comparative assessment of the protection of computer software under the current contractual and legal frameworks in the European Union (EU) and USA.
In 2018, he was the principle investigator on a study commissioned by the European Patent Office looking at the present as well as potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technology on the patent regime, in relation to the concept of inventorship.
He regularly advises policy makers from various jurisdictions. This includes the UKIPO, a member of a group of experts that was consulted on AI and IP Policy, and the authors of EU Commission Report on AI and IP, who cited Professor Shemtov extensively.
In addition, he provides expert comment to media outlets around the world on the challenges that are posed by AI to our IP ecosystems, such as Dezeen and the Financial Times.
