News listing - blocks

Important: for this content type to work, there needs to be news story items in specific child pages for it to pull through. To build them, you will need to use the 'news story - basic' content type. Once built, you can continue with the steps below.

News listing - blocks example

This content type shows three news stories pulled from other pages on T4. It is an eye-catching way to inform the viewer of your latest news.

Steps

Step one - create the news listing block

  1. Identify which page you would like your news item to be displayed on T4.
  2. Go to that section and click on the green '+ Add content' button to add the 'News listing - blocks' content type.
  3. Fill in the content fields.

News listing - blocks content fields

Name

Give the content type a name that will help you remember what it contains. This won't appear on the public webpage, only in T4.

Heading

Add a heading text that will be displayed at the top of the block (eg Latest News).

Link to the relevant news section (eg Section: Home » QMUL Main channel » School of Physical and Chemical Sciences » News and Events » News).

News section

Link to the news items section (eg SectionHome » QMUL Main channel » School of Physical and Chemical Sciences » News and Events » News » Items).

Organisational unit

This is a dropdown menu, consisting of all the organisations. Ensure to add the organisations it's associated with. (eg Physical and Chemical Sciences, Physics, Physical and Astronomy)

Research Highway

This is an optional dropdown menu for the research pages.

Note: ensure that you fill in the 'Organisational unit' field correctly, as it won't pull through the news stories otherwise.

Step two - approve and publish your content

  1. Once the 'news listing - blocks' content type is saved and approved then select the 'publish section' button located at the top of the section page where the content type is created.
  2. Repeat for all sections, child pages and their content to ensure that they are published.

Uploading images - important note

You need to make sure you have the appropriate permissions before publishing an image or video. This includes permission of the copyright holder and, in some cases, the permission of anybody in the image (eg a signed consent form). Find out more about this on our Images page
